Wynton Marsalis & JLCO to open 2017 Music Worcester season / Worcester Telegram

Renowned jazz trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis, performing with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, will open the 2017-18 season for Music Worcester Inc. in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4 in Mechanics Hall. Marsalis is a multiple Grammy Award winner and has also won a Pulitzer Prize for music. He is music director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, which performs a vast repertoire, from rare historic compositions to Jazz at Lincoln Center-commissioned works, including compositions and arrangements by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson, Thelonious Monk, Mary Lou Williams, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Charles Mingus, and many others.

"Music Worcester's 2017-2018 season again brings a wide-ranging series of concerts, events, and performances to downtown Worcester," AND The season will also feature classical orchestras, classical ballet, world music ensembles, chamber music artists, solo recitalists, and even martial arts artists and acrobats. The Worcester Chorus will be involved with several major events, including a collaboration with six cultural organizations for a performance of Benjamin Britten's 1962 masterpiece "War Requiem" on Nov. 12.
