Recorded at the majestic Cathedral of Saint Paul,
Multi-Platinum pianist Steven C.
features seasonal classics and originals in his latest album, "Christmas Beyond."
Minnesota-based pianist Steven C. Anderson has sold more than 2 million records and has performed worldwide with artists such as Mannheim Steamroller and the London Symphony Strings at Abbey Road Studios in London. He has now released his latest Christmas album, "Christmas Beyond" recorded in the Cathedral of Saint Paul (Minn.), using Steven's magnificent 9-foot Bösendorfer concert grand. This latest album is the final product of a long journey, both musical and personal. "I've wanted to create this project for years, but it needed for me to go through big changes and be fully in it," he says.
The space of the Cathedral itself was his creative partner – his instrument – to go beyond the notes and arrangements to create something truly special. As he explains:"The hours spent sitting inside the Cathedral at my Bösendorfer piano were mesmerizing. I felt a rainbow of emotions and it became my personal catharsis. To hear, feel and play with the Cathedral's deep natural acoustics left me speechless. The sound from the space became another instrument and my creative partner. And as the music came out of me, often not even as I had rehearsed, the joining of sound was breathtaking. It resonated through me in a way I've never experienced before."
"Christmas Beyond" is an unparalleled collection of music, expressing the spiritual, contemplative side of Christmas rather than the harried shopping/partying frenzy it has become for so many. It offers a virtuoso selection of traditional old world carols like "Little Drummer Boy" and "Sing We Now of Christmas." In addition, Steven combined songs that he renamed to: "Carol of the Birds and Bells" and "Ave Thanksgiving"to give them fresh interpretations. There are both solo piano and orchestrated piano performances to enjoy. For this album Anderson collaborated with internationally known arranger Adi Yeshaya and Cathedral organist Lawrence Lawyer with additional instrumentation by live strings. "Christmas Beyond" was cinematically mixed by Greg Townley and co-produced by Aimeé Harmel.
According to Mainly Piano's review, "Christmas Beyond" could easily be the standout Christmas album for 2015 and will be a treasured tradition for many years to come!"
