Sharon Isbin :

Bach for Guitar: Lute Suites

Sharon Isbin: Bach for Guitar is now available at retailers nationwide – including Amazon, Arkiv Music, Barnes & Noble – on the Erato/Warner Classics label (cat. #2564617518).   Ms. Isbin calls the Suites "among the most challenging and musically rewarding works in the classical guitar repertoire."   The first  classical guitarist to perform and record Bach on guitar with baroque performance practice techniques, Isbin collaborated with noted Bach scholar and keyboard artist Rosalyn Tureck on the editions performed on the disc. The CD includes all four lute suites by Johann Sebastian Bach, including Suite in E Major, BWV 1006a, Suite in G Minor, BWV 995, Suite in E Minor, BWV 996, and Suite in C Minor, BWV 997.

Isbin's interpretation of the Bach Suites has garnered universal acclaim, with The New York Times hailing her Bach performances as "inventive and virtuosic" and the San Francisco Examiner calling them "perfectly gorgeous" adding "It's hard to believe such stylistically aware sounds could come from a single guitar." Rosalyn Tureck said "Sharon Isbin's Bach performances are the product of great talent, impeccable scholarship and extraordinary instrumental techniques. She combines the sensitivity of the living artist with historical performance practices of the past - a notable blend which constitutes a rare musical experience for both the initiated and uninitiated listener."

Described by The New York Times as a "trailblazer both for female musicians and for the guitar's place in the classical music world," Isbin is the subject of the acclaimed American Public Television broadcast, SHARON ISBIN: TROUBADOUR, which has been seen by millions on nearly 200 PBS stations nationwide, and which won the 2015 ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Television Broadcast Award. The documentary is now available on DVD and Blu-ray including live Bach performances, and bonus content. Current projects include her recent world premiere of Affinity: Concerto for Guitar & Orchestrawritten for her by Chris Brubeck. This fall Isbin will give the world premiere of the song cycle ...Of Love & Longing by Richard Danielpour in her Carnegie Hall recital with Isabel Leonard. Inspired by Danielpour's ancient Persian heritage, with texts by Rumi, the work was co-commissioned for Isbin and Leonard by Carnegie Hall for their 125th anniversary season, and by Chicago's Harris Theater.
