Time / Life - Song for the Whales and Other Beings

The last recordings with Charlie Haden and his Liberation Music Orchestra on disc for the first time, plus three works written by Carla Bley and recorded with LMO in the wake of Charlie's death. Due out on Impulse!/ Verve digitally on October 14 and physical release November 11, Time / Life: Song of the Whales and Other Beings centers around two live recordings-the final recordings with Charlie Haden and his Liberation Music Orchestra-from the 2011 Middelheim Festival: Haden's 1979 composition Song for the Whales and Miles Davis' Blue In Green. After Haden's death in 2014, the Liberation Music Orchestra, with the help of Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, and Charlie's wife Ruth Cameron, recorded three works by Bley in order to create an album that honored Haden and his concern for the environment. The Liberation Music Orchestra with Carla Bley will perform this repertoire at New York City's Jazz Standard on November 3-6.
