Tutto Buffo

Decca is proud to release its first operatic recital in the label's history devoted entirely to buffo baritone repertoire. This album marks the Decca debut of baritone Paolo Bordogna, who is "probably the best buffo baritone around" (Corriere della Sera), in a wide-ranging recital that encompasses two centuries of arias from Cimarosa to Rota. Other than an LP devoted to Fernando Corena roughly 50 year ago, which was actually a collection of arias taken from complete opera recordings, Decca has not previously issued a recital devoted entirely to buffo baritone repertoire. Recorded in Parma with Francesco Lanzillotta leading the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, this all-Italian production highlights the importance of this vocal category, which encompasses purely comic characters to more complex ones such as Don Pasquale and Falstaff.
