Pianist Lara Downes has been named, recipient of the 2017 Classical Recording Foundation Award for her upcoming Sony Classical release For Lenny, a centennial tribute to Leonard Bernstein's American legacy. This album reaches far and wide across the landscape of American music, into territories that Bernstein charted, across borders that he knocked down, uniting the past, present and future in a way that is unique to the artistry of Lara Downes, an iconoclastic, thoroughly 21st Century musician who herself represents Bernstein's American vision.

The 16th annual CRF Awards Gala, will be held on November 13 at National Sawdust in Brooklyn. Downes will be performing music from the album, including world premieres of new works composed "for Lenny" by Michael Abels and John Corigliano Downes' award will be presented by Alexander Bernstein. Additional performances by Emily Levin, Thomas Sauer and David Bowlin, and the music of Gregg Kallor and Peter Lieberson.
