For her Meridian Records debut, Katarzyna Musial offers a diverse program of early 20th-century piano works from Europe, North and South America. The disc pulsates with dance rhythms and showcases nine extraordinary composers from around the globe including - From Argentina (Ginastera), from Andalusia (Turina), from France (Messiaen), from Cuba (Lecuona), from Catalonia (Mompou), from Quebec (Mathieu), from America (Gershwin), and from the pianist's native Poland (Górecki and Stojowski).
Ms. Musial recently performed the program at the International Beethoven Festival in Chicago as veteran music critics in attendance marvelled at her superb playing. One reporter commented that she "romped through these pieces by Ginastera, Lecuona and Turina with swaying rhythms, elastic rubato and dazzling bravura."
Residing in Montreal Canada, Katarzyna Musial has performed concerts and recitals in North America, Europe and Asia, receiving high praise from both audiences and critics alike. Winning first-prize at the 2011 Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition, Ms. Musial is a laureate of the Krzysztof Penderecki International Competition of Contemporary Chamber Music in Kraków Poland, the Kay Meek Competition in Vancouver, and the Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec's Vivacité Montréal. She has also won the Alban Berg Award for Exceptional Merit, and the Philip Cohen Award for Outstanding Performance Musicianship. Highlights of Ms. Musial's recent engagements include her Carnegie Hall debut, her performance at the recent Vancouver Winter Olympics, a seven-city tour of China, an Eastern Canada tour, as well as concerts in Rome, Paris, Warsaw, Chicago with the Prometheus Chamber Orchestra and New York with the New York Camerata. She has been a guest on numerous radio and television broadcasts all over the world and has been widely heard on the WFMT Radio Network through special broadcasts highlighting the music of the Polish Romantic master Zygmunt Stojowski.
A graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków and the Vancouver Academy of Music, Ms. Musial also earned a Diploma in Advanced Music Performance Studies from Concordia University. Coming up in the fall of 2014, Ms. Musial, a Steinway artist, will perform a number of recitals in Spain where she will showcase the ‘Come Dance With Me' program and will take part in Contemporary Music Festivals in Poland and Canada. In addition she will also perform the Carl Maria von Weber Konzertstück with the Toronto Sinfonietta, and is currently in the process of organizing, as co-founder, a new Montreal based Festival which supports women in music.
