Ian Anderson set to close Musikfest, Q&A's with Allentown Morning Call

When it comes to carrying on the music of early British prog-rock band Jethro Tull, lead singer Ian Anderson is arguably the most qualified. Yet when Anderson takes the stage at Musikfest's closing night on Sunday Aug.13, it will be not as Jethro Tull, but as "Jethro Tull by Ian Anderson" - even though he'll play flute, acoustic guitar and sing Jethro Tull's hits, such as "Living in the Past," "Thick as a Brick," "Locomotive Breath" and, of course, the group's signature song, "Aqualung."

Anderson, in a phone call from his home in southwest England, says part of the reason for that is that, after five decades of performing under the band name, at 70 (his birthday was Thursday), he's rather perform under his own name. But he also says that at this point, "it would be in some ways awkward to talk about the band being Jethro Tull because there's been so many musicians over the years. You can't have them all."
