Dom Flemons set for 13th annual Happy Valley Fiddlers Convention / Go Blue Ridge

The 13th annual Happy Valley Fiddlers Convention is this weekend in Lenoir NC. Devoted to the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage and resources of the Happy Valley/Yadkin Valley, the annual music festival highlights traditional old-time and bluegrass music and rural traditions. The family-friendly event features musicians from all over the United States. The music begins Friday evening September 1 – throu 9/3, on the Jones Farm, between Lenoir & North Wilkesboro. Sunday's concert features GRAMMY Award winning musician, singer-songwriter, and slam poet - Dom Flemons. Carrying on the songster tradition, Flemons strives to mix traditional music forms with a contemporary approach, to create new sounds that will appeal to wider audiences. In his recent solo album Prospect Hill (2014), Flemons drew from a wide range of styles, including ragtime, Piedmont blues, spirituals, southern traditional music, string band music, fife and drum music, and jug-band music.
