Even Then

Even Then was written from the perspective of someone feeling insecure in their relationship. It’s about finally being able to let your guard down with someone when you realize nothing will scare them away, being able to be loved for all the ugly, scary, funny, and authentically beautiful sides you possess. It’s knowing that no matter what, they’re not going anywhere.

Kira Velella is a singer-songwriter from Long Island, NY. She has been writing and performing for audiences around the country since she was 17, and is influenced by artists widely ranging in style, from Anais Mitchell to Kacey Musgraves.

“She accomplishes the rare feat of encapsulating confidence and vulnerability in a single performance”, says IndependentClauses.com. “…The voice of a folk queen, Kira Velella has captured hearts with her raw, triumphant sound…The answer to modern folk music,” says TheMostIndietastic.com

Kira has performed at legendary antifolk venue, Sidewalk Café, listening rooms, Caffe Vivaldi and Rockwood Music Hall, the historic Capri Theatre in Gaffney, SC, as well as renowned songwriter showcases, Homegrown Music Café, Live in the Lobby at the Patchogue Theatre, and LIVE at Deepwell’s on Long Island.

Kira released her debut EP, Daughter, in 2013. She continues to write and perform, and is currently recording new music which she began releasing as singles in October of 2021.

You Light Me Up

You Light Me Up was written around the Fourth of July. Kira wanted to create scenes with brightness to them - visuals tracing back to this theme of being "lit up". It is a love song, but an honest one, one which doesn't run from the idea that relationships have their rough edges. Sometimes the rough edges are a part of the larger, colorful tapestry of a relationship you can't get enough of.
