Moments Preserved

New Orleans-Bred Pianist and Composer Sullivan Fortner Returns with His Sophomore Album, Moments Preserved on Impulse! Records Three years after the release of Sullivan Fortner's 2015 Impulse! Records debut, the 31-year-old New Orleans-bred pianist and composer returns with his sophomore album, Moments Preserved, which finds him leading a trio of bassist Ameen Saleem and drummer Jeremy "Bean" Clemons. The album will be released digitally on 6/1 and is available physically 6/8 on Impulse!.

Produced by Grammy-winner Brian Bacchus, Moments Preserved was conceived at the end of a productive recording period, during which Fortner participated on six recording sessions in less than two months. While gathering tunes for the album, he reflected on many key life moments that have occurred since winning the 2008 Leonore Annenberg Arts Fellowship and the 2015 Cole Porter Fellowship – moments including the conclusion of his eight-year tenure in Roy Hargrove's band, emerging as a bandleader and Juggling his personal life with his demanding professional life. He calls the body of work one of his "most honest and emotionally direct" to date.

Since Aria, Fortner's debut on Impulse, he has been the first call pianist for some of the top artists in jazz and beyond, apart from stunning audiences with his own solo and trio performances. In 2017, he joined John Scofield for the European leg of his Country For Old Men Spring tour and most recently, has both recorded and performed critically-acclaimed sold out shows with international jazz vocal phenomenon, Cécile McLorin Salvant – the run included a show at the Kennedy Center in tribute to 2018 NEA Jazz Master Dianne Reeves.
