When Bernadette Peters made her highly-anticipated solo debut at Carnegie Hall in December 1996, The New York Times declared the sold-out benefit performance "thrilling...compelling...(and) profoundly bittersweet." Theater Week raved that Peters was "in adventurous and triumphant form," naming her "the most talented and irresistible performer in musical theatre today." In March 1997, Peters' one night only performance came to life with the release of the Grammy-nominated CD, Sondheim, Etc.: Bernadette Peters Live at Carnegie Hall, by Angel Records.

On August 2, 2005, the curtain rises on Sondheim, Etc., Etc. Bernadette Peters Live at Carnegie Hall (The Rest of It), a new CD from Angel Records featuring all the material not included on the initial concert recording release. Marvin Laird is the Musical Director and Conductor, featuring arrangements and orchestrations by Laird, Jonathan Tunick, Peter Matz, Billy Byers, Don Sebesky, Michael Starobin, and Philip J. Lang.

Sondheim, Etc., Etc. captures the passion, energy, and joy of Peters' electrifying live performance that night from the majestic overture, written especially for the concert by Mr. Laird, to the finale, a heartfelt rendition of the holiday classic "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas." The CD features the Broadway star at her best, performing more of her Stephen Sondheim songs, including a unique performance of "Later" from A Little Night Music, the tender ballad "With So Little To Be Sure Of" from Anyone Can Whistle, "Children Will Listen" from Into the Woods, and "(They Ask Me Why) I Believe in You" a song Mr. Sondheim gave to her to sing that evening.
